What's Your Word of the Year?

My word for 2021 was JOY, which is a deeply personal word since those are the first 3 letters in my name. I wanted to find the JOY in all things, big and small, and really enjoy my life. One of the definitions of joy is gladness in any circumstance.
I always say be careful what you wish for cause the universe will test you and three weeks after choosing the word JOY at the age of 45, I was diagnosed with stage 3 tongue cancer. My challenge for the year became, how to find JOY in all the things, including cancer. After surgery to remove a portion of my tongue, 39 lymph nodes from my neck and 5 weeks of radiation…I am down right grateful to be alive! If you have ever had a brush with death or a challenge that makes you reevaluate every facet of your life, you know that it’s not only eye opening but soul shaking.
Joy became my word and mantra, not just for this year but for the rest of my life. People have cross stitched that word for me, put it on cakes, balloons, coffee mugs, and so much more. I do have a new word for 2022 and I can’t wait to share it with you along with all of the lessons that cancer and joy brought to me and in turn, hopefully to you. Thank you for continuing on this beautiful and joyous journey with me. I'm looking forward to hearing about your journey this last year and the word that you are choosing for 2022.

My word for 2022 is BREATHE. I’m going through a divorce, parenting a tiny version of myself, enjoying new connections, watching the world suffer through the pandemic and other hard struggles, growing my hobbies, caring for loved ones, etc… and I get caught up in all that good and bad and sometimes forget to breathe. I need to experience the moment for what it is, let myself feel the good and bad, and just breathe. Breathe to bring my focus back to myself, to calm, to just be.
Still embracing. I want this. I want to take this piece of home with me to my next home. EMBRACE CHANGE
